Cub Camp
2017
SATURDAY
9:00am Departed Kings Heath
10:00am Comfort stop at Wyre Forest Visitor Centre

We introduced the idea of taking responsibility for each other by having a ‘Safety Officer’. The lead Cub (Safety Officer!) was in charge of counting everyone present and ensuring that we didn’t lose anyone.

11:15am Arrived & settled at Kington
11:30am Site familiarisation & safety rules explained
12.15pm Packed lunches
1:00pm We stowed our gear & setup the boys’ and the girls’ sleeping areas
ready for tired Cubs at the end of the day.

2:30pm Badge work / activity

We went out & about through the farm yard, stopping at one of the areas along the stream to look for plants & wildlife to identify. We used lidded pots for collecting minibeasts to sketch. Of course, each creature was returned to where they were found. Typically for camp, it began to rain heavily so the activity was cut short outside.

3:15pm Snack & drink

We continued work on plants & minibeasts in the dry using identification books.

4:15pm Badge work / activity – preparing salads

Whilst we were continuing our plant & creature identification activity, 2 Cubs at a time went to prepare our fruit salad for pudding.
6:00pm Tea – pizza, sweetcorn, salad & Fruit salad
The Cubs were keen to help clear up & wash up!!!

7:20pm Badge work / activity – Unfortunately, it was too wet for developing
our firelighting or camouflage skills. Instead, we went for a walk
through the farm and along the lane.

As the rain had eased, we did manage to play a ‘stealth’ game of creeping up on leaders without being heard. The Cubs also ‘hid’ along lane as we returned. One of the Cubs was so good, we had to walk back down the lane to look again!

9:30pm Camp fire – Toasted Marshmallows
Supper – hot choc & Cake!
10:00pm Prepared for bed
10:30pm Lights out - Girls took longer than the boys to settle…

The cubs used small gas burners to cook part of their own breakfast. They chose whether to cook themselves an omelette or fried egg. All were successful!
All Cubs helped clear & wash up.

10:00am Packed & cleared beds
11:00am Freetime was used to run around on the grass a lot! However, there were a
couple of Cubs who chose to spend their time playing more sedate board
games.
